Coach Joe Mazzulla of the Boston Celtics gave Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola credit for helping the squad win the NBA Finals. The Celtics won the 2024 NBA championship, a record 18th overall, over the Dallas Mavericks.
The Celtics had a season of outstanding play culminating in their first NBA title since 2008. They improved after becoming runners-up in 2022 to win their much expected 18th title.
Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, was caught having an exchange with the Boston Celtics coach prior to Game 1 of the NBA Final. Guardiola had been in the USA since Manchester City won the Premier League for the first time in history four times in a row in 2023–24.
Mazzulla praised Guardiola's contribution to the team's planning to outmanoeuvre the Dallas Mavericks' tough defence, which is thought to be among the finest in the NBA. This was stressed by the Celtics coach in a comment that was posted on the X account @CentreGoals. Mazzulla said:
“Dallas has one of the smartest defences. We had to be creative. Pep helped me in transitions and how to move the guys.”
The Boston Celtics demonstrated their supremacy throughout the season by grabbing a 3-0 lead and winning the series 4-1. Wearing a Boston Celtics cap, Guardiola was spotted courtside during Game 1 to express the team's support.
