Manchester United on Wednesday anunced that owners of club, Glazers are considering selling team as part of exploring strategic alternatives for side. According to a statement issued by English Premier League team, a process to explore strategic alternatives for club in order to enhance club's future growth has alrey commenced. process will w allow United board to consider all strategic alternatives, including new investment into club, a sale, or or transactions involving company. 

"As part of this process, Board will consider all strategic alternatives, including new investment into club, a sale, or or transactions involving Company.  This will include an assessment of several initiatives to strengn club, including stium and infrastructure redevelopment, and expansion of club’s commercial operations on a global scale, each in context of enhancing long-term success of club’s men’s, women’s and acemy teams, and bringing benefits to fans and or stakeholders," statement re.

How much money did Manchester United cost Glazers?

As process of a potential sale begins, let's take a look at how much Manchester United cost Glazer family. American businessman Malcolm Glazer, owner of Manchester United, bought majority shares of Old Trafford club between 2003 to 2005 for an estimated sum of £790 million. When Glazer acquired ownership of club, it was one of most successful football teams in Europe, t just in England. At time, United was debt-free but after club's sale to Glazer family, it has burdened itself with around £500 million in debt. 

Glazer's takeover of United h triggered massive protests among club's fans due to financial concerns. After Malcolm Glazer suffered a stroke in 2006, his sons Joel and Avram took charge of club. Malcolm Glazer died in 2014 but ownership of club remained in family, which still controls its 90% stake. As per reports, if sale of club gets a d from Glazers, it would go for somewhere between £5 to £9 billion.
