Manchester United has had a difficult start to the season, with the 20-time English champions currently sitting 14th in the Premier League table, and the club's new leadership is dissatisfied with the pace of change under Erik ten Hag. Amid the team's struggles, the Dutchman was fired on Monday, October 28, 2024.  This comes after Erik Ten Hag’s complete failure in the Premier League despite having all the reported resources provided by the club for a uniform stint.

Erik Ten Hag pens down a letter for Manchester United after he got sacked

Following his dismissal on October 28, Erik ten Hag bid Manchester United farewell with great love. The Dutch manager expressed thanks in his statement to the team and supporters for their support over his two-year career at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag, who joined Manchester United in 2022 following a strong run with Ajax, had a difficult beginning to the 2024–25 season. The club struggled in 14th place in the standings with just three victories under his direction in nine Premier League games. October 27's 2-1 loss to West Ham United marked the turning point and forced the club's management to make the tough choice to split ways. Ten Hag thanked the supporters in a thorough message for their steadfast loyalty. Erik Ten Hag wrote(via Fabrizio Romano) :

“A message from Erik ten Hag:

"Dear fans, Let me start by thanking you. Thank you for always being there for the club. Whether it was at a game far away or a tough match at Old Trafford, your support has been unshakeable. The atmosphere at Old Trafford has always been electrifying, thanks to you. I felt it many times. Also in away games, it gave the team and me an incredible feeling to hear the United chants taking over the opponents’ stadiums, whether the game was in England, Europe or during the summer tours.

''I always enjoyed meeting Manchester United fans throughout the world. Walking the streets and being able to chat with fans in England, Europe, Asia, Australia, the USA - you inspired me and radiated a strong sense of unity. That’s what makes United supporters so special.

''I want to thank you for giving me this feeling and for your support. I also want to thank the staff in every department of the club for their unwavering support in good times and bad. We won two trophies - achievements that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Of course, my dream was to bring more trophies to the cabinet. Unfortunately, that dream has come to an end.

''I wish all Manchester United fans nothing but success, trophies and glory. Your support and the warmth I received from everyone at the club helped me feel at home.

''Thank you for this chapter in my life. Erik”.

Ten Hag had a difficult last season at United, although he did manage to capture trophies in each of his two prior seasons, grabbing the EFL Cup and the FA Cup. But had no glory in the major competitions like the Premier League or in European leagues.  His actions and mind were questioned and doubted following his decision to bench Cristiano Ronaldo in 2022, the Portuguese became the top goal scorer for the club and was in fine form during his second stint.
