ISL has helped in boosting the confidence of Indian players: Vinit Rai

"Midfielders have transitioned fast. I think nowadays we are more comfortable on the ball and the credit goes to ISL, for providing the setup" - Rai on the ISL.

Odisha FC playmaker Vinit Rai has thanked the Indian Super League (ISL) for improving the standards and quality of Indian players. The midfielder feels that the Indian players have gained more confidence when the ball is on their foot. Rai has been a prominent player for the Delhi Dynamos in the past two seasons.

In a recent interview on the ISL's official website, Rai admitted that he did not get many chances to play at the clubs he was in the past. He thanked and stated that he is grateful to Odisha FC's coaches and management for having faith in him and is hoping to relieve more good performances in the future. Rai started his career with Dempo in the I-League during the 2014-15 season.

He made his ISL debut with Kerala Blasters FC before he shifted to the I-League side and then finally the erstwhile Delhi Dynamos, which has been rechristened as Odisha FC. According to Rai, the midfielders have transitioned fast and he feels that they are more comfortable on the ball right now. He stated that they are fortunate enough to train under big coaches and play alongside good players in the ISL. According to reports, Indian national team head coach Igor Stimac opts for players who can control the ball well in the midfield and Rai comes under that category of players. He was also invited for Stimac’s first press meet after joining the Indian team.
