'It's time': Argentina Stalwart Angel Di Maria Announces Int Retirement Ahead of Copa America Final

Argentina have successfully made it to the final of Copa America 2024. The World Champions defeated Canada in the semi-final of the tournament to proceed to the final, where they will meet the winner of Uruguay vs Canada. While everything is going well for Albicleste, one of the stalwarts of the team, Angel Di Maria, has paid heed to what's next for him and stated that the Copa America 2024 final would be his last dance at the international stage.

Angel Di Maria Hints At Potential Retirement

Following the culmination of the Argentina vs Canada game, the Benfica player expressed his thoughts and disseminated his potential retirement plans. In a brief post, he made it known that although he is reluctant to say goodbye but time has come. He further mentioned that the result of the Copa America final would not have anything to do with his decision and either way in win or loss he could go out with his head held high.

"I'm not ready for my last game in the national team, but it's time. Whatever happens in the final, I think I can leave through the front door. I gave everything. I always gave my life for this jersey. There were times when I didn't get to, but lately I have. I am grateful to everyone who supported me."

Angel Di Maria's Legacy Is Cemented

Angel Di Maria has been a consistent performer for Argentina. He has so far played 144 matches for Argentina, scoring 31 goals and assisting 32 times. He has netted goals at some of the biggest stages in world football. He scored the winning goal for Argentina in the 2021 Copa America. Scored a goal in Finalissima in 2022 against Italy. Was on the sheet in the FIFA World Cup 2022 final against France, and assisted Messi in the 108th minute in the epic final against France. Thus, his credentials may remain untouched in the history of Argentina football.
