Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has apologised to ex-Manchester United player Patrice Evra for wearing T-shirts in support of Luis Suarez in 2011. The former Liverpool striker racially abused the Frenchman and Suarez was handed an eight-game ban by the Football Association (FA) after two-month of investigation. To come in support of Suarez, the Liverpool team wore 'Suarez 7' t-shirts in their warm-up before their game against Wigan Athletic.

Carragher stated that the whole Liverpool team "got it massively wrong". Carragher, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, on Monday was alongside Evra on-air for United's home game against Liverpool. Carragher took the opportunity to clear the air and said there is no doubt Liverpool made a massive mistake which was obvious. He added that he doesn't clearly remember if it was the Kenny Dalglish or Steve Clarke who asked one of the players if he was still wearing the shirt and it was the first time Carragher heard of it. Evra added that when he saw it he found it ridiculous and unbelievable. According to Evra, if the support from Liverpool would have been before the ban that would have been understandable but the fact that they wore the T-shirt after the ban was something he was shocked about.
