John Terry asked Chelsea to make a move for David Villa instead of Sergio Aguero in 2009

Chelsea's then captain John Terry was not impressed by Aguero and he insisted the club to sign players like Villa or Ribery. Read on for more details.

Sergio Aguero is currently amongst one of top-ranked strikers in world. He has been impressive throughout his career and is enjoying his time at Manchester City. Argentine has mand to net 244 goals in 353 appearances he has made for Blues. He also has four Premier League titles to his name. 31-year-old striker is still main man for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City. y are aiming for ir third consecutive Premier League glory. However, things would have been different if John Terry would have given his thumbs up to Chelsea when y were planning to sign Argentine. According to reports, Chelsea were very close to signing Sergio Aguero but John Terry sabotd deal and went in search of alternatives.

What Really Happened?

In 2009, Chelsea were looking to sign new players to replace ir n senior attackers. Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka were both in ir 30s and Chelsea were in desperate need of signing a striker. Sergio Aguero was budding player during that time as striker netted 19 and 17 goals in two seasons he played for Atletico Madrid in La Liga. According to reports, Chelsea officials enquired about striker for whom Atletico Madrid kept a £40 million price tag.

Chelsea and Atletico Madrid later faced each or in Champions League and Sergio Aguero displayed a stunning performance against Blues. However, Chelsea's n captain John Terry was t impressed with Aguero and he insisted club to sign players like David Villa or Franck Ribery who were available during that window.

But if reports are to be believed, Chelsea's manr Carlo Ancelotti was very impressed by Sergio Aguero. He once stated that Aguero would be a good match with Drogba. Ancelotti inspired Chelsea to make a move for Aguero in January 2010 window. Chelsea made a bid of  £30 million but Atletico Madrid rejected offer as it was £10 million lower than ir expectation. Chelsea were also trying to avoid paying Sergio Aguero's manr Bru Satin his fee of £5 million. However, deal went off and Blues opted for Daniel Sturridge. Manchester City n signed Sergio Aguero after a year and rest is history.
