Kylian Mbappe Scores On Debut As Real Madrid Beat Atalanta 2-0 To Win UEFA Super Cup 2024

Cometh the hour! Cometh the man! as Kylian Mbappe scored a sensational goal on his Real Madrid debut to lead Los Blancos to their first silverware of the season as they beat Atalanta 2-0 in the UEFA Super Cup 2024. 

It is the perfect start for Real Madrid to their season and an even perfect to Kylian Mbappe's Real Madrid career as he wins his first ever trophy in the royal white shirt. 

Kylian Mbappe struggled in the first 45 minutes of the game, but in the second half came out firing and dispatched a sensational strike in the 69th minute to put the result beyond any doubt for Los Blancos. 

The second half started with early warning signs for Real Madrid as Atalanta had two golden opportunities to take the lead. One was saved by Thibaut Courtois in the goal while the second glanced just wide off the frame of the goal. 

Real Madrid cranked up the pressure and were threatening Atalanta's goal and soon received their reward. In the 60th minute of the match, Jude Bellingham found Vinicius Jr who went on an excellent run on the left hand side of the box and drew in defenders and the goalkeeper. 

Vinicius then simply squared the box to Fede Valverde in the centre and the midfielder slotted home a tap in from a very close range to hand Real Madrid the lead on the night.

A sluggish first 45 minutes

As expected the match began in sluggish fashion as both teams were getting to the game in their first official game of the season. The lack of sharpness and match readiness was apparent in both the teams and inside the first 5 minutes, Real Madrid's defence was caught napping and Atalanta had a Golden opportunity to take the lead of the game. 

However, some last ditch defending by Antonio Rudiger inside the box spared Real Madrid's blushes. As the game progressed, Real Madrid were growing into the game and started to create opportunities. 

With all the eyeballs on Kylian Mbappe on his debut for Real Madrid, the French superstar was eager to perform for the Los Blancos. However, he endured a silent first 45 minutes.

But the biggest opportunity of the first 45 minutes fell to Rodrygo who had was found open inside the box in added time in the first half. With the entire goal to aim at and only the Goalie standing in between, Rodrygo skied his shot and hit the crossbar as a Golden opportunity went begging and both sides returned into the break level on score.
