Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane’s gamble to rest his key players ahead of the Madrid derby went fairly well as Madrid registered a 2-0 victory in a LaLiga clash. The two Brazil internationals Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo combined to earn the hosts a victory. Their efforts helped the Bernabeu side to reach the top of the table. It seems that after two consecutive wins in LaLiga against Sevilla and Osasuna, Real Madrid have recovered their UEFA Champions League defeat against Paris Saint-German.

Madrid's goals

Osasuna had their chances throughout the match. However, Real Madrid scored the opening goal of the game. Vinicius Jr. picked up a pass from Toni Kroos and fired a shot past the Osasuna goalkeeper, Ruben in the 36th minute. It gave a 1-0 lead to hosts at the break. Rodrygo, Madrid’s new summer signing from Santos, scored the second goal in the 72nd minute. With that win, Real Madrid are now one point ahead of their city rivals, Atletico Madrid.

Vinicius' Gametime debate

Vinicius Jr's lack of game time had been a cause of debate until this point of the season. He played a crucial role in this match with14 dribbles. The clash seemed to be a warm-up game before the Madrid derby. Vinicius Jr. was reduced to tears as he scored his first goal since February. An unexpected ligament injury stopped his rate of progress last season. Meanwhile, Rodrygo scored with just 93 seconds into his debut as he cut a crossfield pass from Casemiro, sweeping the ball past into the Osasuna net. Real Madrid will make the short journey across the city to the Wanda Metropolitan Stadium with a rejuvenated optimism and with a lot of options on the bench.
