La Pulga Is a Beast! Lionel Messi Nets a Brace as He Returns to Competitive Action for Inter Miami CF
Lionel Messi was an unstoppable force when he entered the pitch of the Chase Stadium after his two-month hiatus from competitive action. The Argentine striker made his long-awaited return to football after sustaining an ankle injury at the Copa America Final. While leading the charge against the Philadelphia Union, Messi netted a brace for his side as he put Miami on top gear against the Philadelphia Union at its home venue.
In the 26th minute of the match-up, Lionel Messi netted his first goal, courtesy of an assist from his former Barcelona teammate and Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez.
Four minutes later, Jordi Alba made a back pass to Messi in the box and Messi netted the ball to convert it to the team's second goal. Both of them came in the half-time, which gave Inter Miami the lead under 45 minutes.
To further enhance the lead, Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez extended Inter Miami's goal count with a solid strike to the net, with Lionel Messi making the assist. He took Miami's goal count to 3 while the Philadelphia Union struggled to keep them at bay. Inter Miami secured a strong finish with a 3-1 lead to keep themselves at the top of the MLS leaderboard. Messi is inching close to keeping his case or the Golden Boot finish after the two goals lifted his total count to 14 in the ongoing MLS season.
Lionel Messi's return to Inter Miami opens doors for his return to International action. Argentina will take part in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in early October when they will face Venezuela and Bolivia. La Pulga could make his international comeback at that time.
