Lionel Messi's Future Destination DISCLOSED: Inter Miami Star Set to Depart MLS, Reports Suggest
Reports indicate that Inter Miami's Lionel Messi is primed to leave MLS, with his next destination unveiled, marking a significant shift in his career.
Lionel Messi, widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, is currently in the latter stages of his football career at the age of 37. Messi, the captain of Inter Miami, shows evidence of age affecting his effectiveness, but he is still a major player on the game, displaying his constant impact and ability despite the natural slowing down with advancing years.
Lionel Messi could leave Inter Miami once his contract expires with Inter Miami
Recent talks about Lionel Messi's future have generated a lot of interest. Having joined Inter Miami on a free transfer in 2023 after a poor time with PSG , the 37-year-old attacker signed a two-and- a half-year deal with the US based team.
Messi's arrival has significantly transformed Inter Miami and Major League Soccer (MLS). Inter Miami won the Leagues Cup in 2023 under his direction, therefore earning their first trophy. His presence also helped the league financially; more people watched, which raised income for MLS partners like Adidas and Apple .
Because his contract will be in effect until December 2025, Messi only has one season left. There have been no talks about a contract renewal with David Beckham's co-owned team. El Nacional claims Messi would be returning to Argentina to play for his boyhood team, Newell's Old Boys.
Messi has always shown his fondness for Newell's. He expressed in a 2016 interview for Spanish magazine El Planeta Urbano his ambition to finally go back to Argentina to represent his hometown club. Lionel Messi has said:
"If I go back to Argentina tomorrow, which I would love, the club I would be play for would be Newell's.”
Later on, Messi underlined that he is not sure about his future and that he wants his kids to grow up in calm and stable surroundings. As advised by TyC Sports, Messi added:
“My dream is to play at Newell's but I don't know what will happen, and a part of that doubt is due to the way the country is at the moment.”
"I have a family and my children come first, and then me, I want them to grow up in a calm place, being able to enjoy life with security. It is very ugly to see the things that happen in Argentina, that you can go out on the street and people want to rob you and that they can kill you."
In 32 games across every competition, the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner has scored 27 goals and recorded 17 assists.
