Entering his 17th season as a Barcelona player, Lionel Messi's future at club has repeatedly been questioned. Earlier this year, it was reported that  Argentinian icon could leave club next year at end of his current contract. While Messi may apparently be unhappy in Catalonia, his decision to move on may have been accelerated by Barcelona's 8-2 drubbing at hands of Bayern Munich.

Chelsea are currently looking to bring Bayer Leverkusen starlet Kai Havertz in a deal that would likely be a club record. In addition, Blues have already secured signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech from RB Leipzig and Ajax. While Chelsea already boast an uber-impressive attack, it is ir sub-par defence that has been a cause for concern for head coach Frank Lampard.

With defensive changes necessary for club to mount a challenge for top hours next season, it appears highly unlikely that Chelsea will look to spend big to sign Messi from Barca. That said, if Messi really wants to join west London outfit, Roman Abramovich could potentially work out a deal. After all, Russian is second richest club owner in Premier League.
