Lionel Messi has had an equally impressive debut in Major League Soccer after a stunning initial appearance with Inter Miami in the Leagues Cup. Inter Miami and NY Red Bulls squared off in the season's 23rd game. In the last seconds of the game, Messi, who had just made his league debut, doubled the advantage for his team. Miami defeated the opponent 2-0.

Lionel Messi had a successful MLS debut 

Lionel Messi was scheduled to debut at the Inter Miami vs NY Red Bulls match in Major League Soccer. He wasn't named in the starting lineup at first, which prolonged the anticipation of whether he would leave his first MLS footprints. The crowd's cries of wanting Messi to play were loud and clear, and in the 60th minute, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner entered the Red Bull Arena to fulfil the fans' wish.  

Messi soon found his footing after entering the field, and it took him less than 30 minutes to score his first MLS goal. For nearly the entire game, Miami held a slim lead, but Messi doubled it with some flawless coordination moments before the final whistle. Here is how Messi entered his score.

Antonela Roccuzzo confused Lionel Messi with another teammate

Messi's wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, joined the celebrations on the field after the victory and went to her husband to congratulate him. Video of the incident shows her approaching for an embrace after thinking she had found Messi, only to quickly find that it was Jordi Alba, a former teammate of Messi's from Barcelona who is now playing for Inter Miami.

Following an early termination of his contract with Barcelona, Jordi Alba switched to the MLS squad during the summer. Just as Roccuzzo was about to greet Alba with wide open arms, she realized that it was not her husband. Roccuzzo and Alba exchanged a half-hearted hug despite their initial surprise, and they both seemed to acknowledge the mix-up with lighter laughing.
