Manchester United vs Liverpool injury news: Pogba and De Gea ruled out

Manchester United gear up to face Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday. David de Gea and Paul Pogba have been ruled out. Martial and Wan-Bissaka to return.

Premier League is back this weekend and matchday 9 could spring up some surprises, as is nature of Premier League. Among many Premier League bosses sweating over ir jobs this weekend, all focus is bound to be on Manchester United manr Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Under Solskjaer, United have me worst start to a league campaign in 30 years. Come October 20, United play hosts to league leers Liverpool, as y trail Jurgen Klopp's men by 15 points after eight games in Premier League so far. 

Injury woes for Red Devils

Solskjaer was confirmed as manr for Red Devils in March, earlier this year, after being appointed as United's caretaker manr in December. As rwegian reies his side to host trailblazers Liverpool, United boss has been dealt with a huge blow after international break. United's first-choice goalkeeper David de Gea picked up an injury in Spain's 1-1 draw against Sweden in ir Euro Qualifier clash. Spaniard is said to have suffered a groin injury, which, Solskjaer confirmed, has ruled him out of running to face Liverpool.

Paul Pogba is also set to face a spell on sidelines, after failing to recover from an ankle injury during international break. Pogba was expected to return for United's crunch fixture against Liverpool, but United manr confirmed that French midfielder was unlikely to make matchday squ after claiming that former Juventus midfielder played through pain barrier in last couple of games for Red Devils. David de Gea's injury means that he joins teammates Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Timothy Fosu-Mensah on injury list. French international Anthony Martial is back in training for Red Devils. Former Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also expected to return to Solskjaer's side on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp, meanwhile, will have a relatively fit squ to pick from, with Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker back in training this week. Alisson suffered a calf injury and was sidelined for majority of Liverpool's fixtures this season. Brazilian is expected to make a return to matchday squ for Liverpool this weekend. Mohamed Salah is also expected to return to this side, having been victim of a horrendous challenge from Leicester City's Hamza Choudhury in last game. Cameroonian centre-back Joel Matip has also resumed training for Reds. Former Stoke City winger Xherdan Shaqiri, however, is still out with injury.
