ON THIS DAY: Maradona suspended by Italian league after positive cocaine test
On this day back in 1991, Diego Armando Maradona was suspended for 15 months after tested positive for cocaine prior his last game with Napoli against Bari on March 17th.

On this day back in 1991, Diego Armando Maradona was suspended for 15 months after tested positive for cocaine prior his last game with Napoli against Bari on March 17th.
The Disciplinary Commission of the Italian League banned Maradona, at that time 30-years-old, to not playing professional football until June 30th, 1992.
Maradona, who had returned to Buenos Aires to wait for the decision, was arrested by the police on April 26th with half-kilo of cocaine. Maradona was awarded with the honorary citizenship of the city of Naples in 2017.
