Premier League: Leicester City vs Newcastle United match report
Ricardo Pereira scored the opener for the Foxes with a superb solo goal in the 16th minute of the first half. Jamie Vardy was shown a yellow card in the 24th minute after a strong challenge on Newcastle's Schar. The visitors were reduced to 10-men in the 43rd minute of the game as Isaac Hayden made a very rash challenge on Praet. Although he initially took the ball, the follow-through was dangerous and left the referee with no choice but to send him off. Steve Bruce subbed-in Ki Sung-Yueng for Muto to strengthen their midfield.
Jamie Vardy doubled the lead for the home side with six minutes into the second half. Barnes cushioned the ball into the area for Vardy, who drove a low-shot to beat Newcastle goalkeeper Dubravka. The Magpies added to their own woes as Praet's cross deflected off Paul Dummett to beat his own keeper. Leicester made their first substitution of the match as Marc Albrighton replaced Harvey Barnes in the 58th minute.
Leicester City were making light work of the visitors as they slotted their fourth goal of the match in the 64th minute. Vardy bagged his brace with an Albrighton assist. In the 82nd minute, Leicester put together a move of at least 20 passes but Ricardo missed the final finish. Wilfred Ndidi scored the final goal as he managed to beat Dubravka from 12 yards to the goal in the 90th minute. Leicester are now third in the Premier League and face Liverpool next at Anfield on October 5. Newcastle next play Manchester United on October 6.
