Mesut Ozil's performance in the Carabao Cup for Arsenal may have paved the way for his Premier League recall as stated by manager Unai Emery before the club's game against the Wolves on Saturday. The 31-year-old featured for only the third time this season as the Gunners lost out on penalties at Anfield against Liverpool, after a 5-5 draw in the Carabao League Cup. However, Ozil left a keen impression before his substitution just beyond the hour mark.

Mesut Ozil was in the squad for Arsenal's game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, November 2, 2019, and Unai Emery had confirmed in the pre match conference that the former Germany international will play just his second Premier League game of the season. He was selected in the starting XI, which was a major boost for both the player, the team as well as the club's fans as Ozil is an extremely popular and likeable player at Arsenal.

Ozil is likely to be sold
It is unlikely that this short-term reprieve for Ozil changes Arsenal's view of his future at the club. The club management still hopes to sell the World Cup winner, whose wages will set them back around £30 million before his contract expires in the summer of 2021. Once upon a time, Ozil was the go-to-man for former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who bought him from Real Madrid. He flourished well under the Frenchman's reign till his time at the Emirates. However, things turned for worse, with the arrival of Emery at the Emirates.

Ozil and Emery have a strained relationship
Britsh media reports have speculated for long, a worsening relationship between the German and Emery as Ozil has not featured while Arsenal struggle in the Premier League. Emery remains under fire from supporters for failing to deliver results this season in emphatic fashion as the club sits fifth on the points table. The furore over captain Granit Xhaka's relationship with fans has only added to the North London club's woes.
