The pressure is mounting on Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane following Real Madrid's shock LaLiga loss to Real Mallorca on Saturday. The defeat has allowed their arch-rivals Barcelona to leapfrog them at the top of the league table. Zinedine Zidane is already on thin ice as club president Florentino Perez has reportedly made contact with Jose Mourinho to be the next manager at Real Madrid.

Zidane at Madrid
The Frenchman has won nine trophies, including three successive UEFA Champions League titles, during his first spell at Madrid. But he is experiencing a rough time since returning to the Spanish giants in March this year, having won just 10 of his 22 games so far. This season particularly, Madrid have looked very poor which is evident from their poor Champions League campaign. They have only picked up only one point from their two opening games in Group A, which includes an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. They desperately need a win to improve their situation or risk failing to make it the knockout stages. Despite their league defeat in the hands of Mallorca this Sunday being their first in the league, Madrid have failed to look convincing which is worrying the Madrid faithful.

The rumours say
According to the Spanish media, Perez has contacted Mourinho to sound him out as a potential replacement for Zidane. The 56-year-old – out of work since being sacked by Manchester United in December 2018 – won the LaLiga and the Copa del Rey during his time with Los Blancos between 2010 and 2013. He has been currently working with Sky Sports as a pundit, while simultaneously sounding out potential opportunities. It has also known, Mourinho would love to take charge of Madrid as he shares a good working relationship with Perez.

The speculation has been addressed by Zidane himself, as he admitted the pressure at Madrid is high, but he remains confident of overturning the club's fortunes. He has also challenged his side to channel the club's traditional heritage and bounce back on Tuesday. Zidane will have the chance to silence his critics when his side faces Galatasaray in the Champions League; a must-win game for the Los Blancos.
