Portuguese international and Euro 2016 winner Sanches, his club's most expensive buy when he signed for 20 million euros from Bayern Munich in summer, struck decisive goal in 84th minute.

"Sanches h his best game for us," said Lille coach Christophe Galtier.

Jonathan Ikone opened scoring for Lille from penalty spot just before half-time interval only for Andy Delort to level in 74th minute from a rare Montpellier attack. Lille's Kenyan international Victor Osimhen missed a last-minute penalty. Despite that, Lille were worthy winners as y look to return to Champions League next season after a miserable campaign this time round which saw m lose five of six group games.
