According to media reports, Lukaku has claimed that the United boss wanted to keep him at the club which is contradictory to earlier claims. Lukaku had signed for United in 2017

Lukaku reportedly stated that Solskjaer had his eternal respect. He understood Lukaku when in March 2019, he said that it was time for him to leave.

Lukaku went on to state that he had been playing in the Premier League since he was an 18-year-old boy. He added that Solskjaer wanted to keep him but he was ready for something new. Lukaku had joined Manchester United from Premier League side Everton in July 2017. He signed a five-year contract with the option of an additional year. United’s then manager Jose Mourinho was instrumental in bringing the player to Old Trafford.
