Barcelona fans are not happy with Ter Stegen after his poor performance against AS Monaco

Following his poor performance in the team's 2-1 loss to Monaco, Barcelona supporters have voiced their annoyance with Marc-André ter Stegen. Currently ranked 23rd in the new league phase standings, the Blaugrana suffered a blow on September 19 at Stade Louis-II in their UEFA Champions League opening.

Eric Garcia's straight red card in the 10th minute for a tackle on former Liverpool player Takumi Minamino sent Barcelona's evening off on a rough start. Ter Stegen's bad pass from his box gave the other side possession and helped to explain Garcia's expulsion.

Ligue 1's Monaco led only six minutes later thanks to a shot from Maghnes Akliouche, whose low shot passed Ter Stegen and left him without time to react.

But Lamine Yamal proved his mettle in the 28th minute with an amazing goal equalising. Barcelona suffered as Monaco kept applying pressure; George Ilenikhena scored the decisive goal in the 71st minute.

Ter Stegen made six stops and 19 recoveries, but his performance during Monaco's goals and his part in the run-up to Garcia's red card left many supporters dubious about his dependability in goal.

FC Barcelona will now be seen in action against Villareal on Sunday, September 22, 2024.
