Solskjaer encourages Manchester United to show killer instinct

Manchester United's manager, Ole Gunnar Solkjaer, has encouraged the members of his team to be a bit more aggressive on the field after overcoming a scare against a 3rd tier team, Rochdale, in a League Cup encounter on September 25. The aftermath saw fans posting tweets that said #OleOut after the match saw the Red Devils scrape through with a 5-3 victory on penalties after a drab 1-1 draw at the theatre of dreams.

A reality check for the Red Devils

With the wounds still fresh from a 2-0 loss against West Ham on September 22, Solsksjaer's United again showed a lacklustre performance when Rochdale's 16-year-old defender, Luke Matheson, scored in the 76th minute that bought Rochdale level with United after academy graduate, Mason Greenwood, scored in the 68th minute.

Manchester United's second-choice goalkeeper, Sergio Romero, was the hero of the day by saving a spot-kick that was taken by Rochedale's midfielder, Jimmy Keohane and that rewarded United with a last 16 trip to Chelsea's Stamford Bridge stadium on October 29.

It was a reality check for the young Manchester United team after only 1 shot was on target out the total number of shots they had taken before the penalty shootouts at the end of the game.

A positive response from the manager

Solksjaer stated that he was not scared that they had been drawn against Chelsea as United had beaten them on the opening day of the 2019-20 premier league season. He further added that in order to be at the top, one needs to be the best and that they are going to make the best of what they have got in order to get the desired results.

With Manchester United perched at the 8th position in the Premier League table, they have a busy schedule ahead with matches against Norwich, Bournemouth, Chelsea, and Partizan Belgrade in the month of October stretching well into the month of November. 

With the Norweigan manager still in the process of rebuilding the team to be worthy contenders, the question surrounding United - for how long Ole is going to be at the 'Wheel' or will he be given time to steer the Red Devils back to their former glory days.
