Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Manchester United amidst much fanfare in 2021 when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge. In the first season, he was at the very top of his form and the 38-year-old finished the season as United's top goal scorer. But things didn't pan out the way everyone had hoped as the Portuguese superstar reached an amicable settlement with the club as he left Old Trafford to join Al-Nassr at the start of 2023.

Ronaldo started his second reign in his usual style as he scored a brace as the Red Devils thumped Newcastle United 4-1 in the Premier League. But things gradually started to fall apart and the Norwegian manager was eventually shown the door following a number of underwhelming results.

Ronaldo did not have a fluent start under current manager Erik ten Hag and his interview with Piers Morgan proved to be the final nail in the coffin. Ronaldo joined Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr this year and has been in good form this season. The news of Ronaldo's return broke the internet but as per the former United manager the decision turned out to be wrong.

In an interaction with The Athletic Solskjaer said, “It was a decision that was very difficult to turn down and I felt we had to take it, but it turned out wrong.
“It felt so right when he signed and the fans felt that at that Newcastle game, when Old Trafford was rocking. He was still one of the best goalscorers in the world, he was looking strong.”

The former United player also criticised some of the player of the squad. “They weren’t as good as their own perception of themselves.

“I won’t name names, but I was very disappointed when a couple turned down the chance to be captain. I was also disappointed when others said they wouldn’t play or train because they wanted to force their way out.”
