After the kiss controversy with player Jenni Hermoso during the award ceremony for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 final, Spanish football federation president Luis Rubiales has received significant criticism. Rubiales gave Hermoso a peck on the lips as she accepted her gold medal at the end of Spain's historic World Cup victory, and a video of the touching moment has since gone viral. Luis Rubiales claims to be a victim of “false feminism”

Attempting to defend his actions, Spanish Football Federation head Luis Rubiales sent FIFA a video of Jenni Hermoso, in which she appears to be joking about their kiss after the Women's World Cup final. Following his actions at the Women's World Cup final in Sydney earlier this month, FIFA has temporarily suspended Rubiales for 90 days.

The president of the Spanish Football Federation has expressed his anger at the backlash he has received for kissing and embracing Hermoso. A victim of "social murder" and "false feminism," as he sees it, he has claimed that both movements are actively working against him.

Despite reports to the contrary, Hermoso has always denied granting Rubiales permission to kiss her. As a show of solidarity, the Spanish national team has decided to skip international competition until the country's 46-year-old president resigns or is removed from power.

Spain's FA Chief Luis Rubiales provides FIFA with visual proof

Rubiales, working on behalf of the Spanish Football Federation, has accused Hermoso of "lying" about the incident. He even put out a statement, which he later took down, in which he said he might take legal action against her. But El Espanyol says that Rubiales is trying to clear his name in FIFA's probe, which is still going on. To help his case, he sent FIFA a video of Hermoso making fun of the kiss with her friends shortly after the World Cup final.

Hermoso may be seen in the video chuckling while looking at a mobile phone meme. Following Spain's World Cup victory in 2010, this meme shows her kissing Rubiales next to a photo of Iker Casillas kissing Sara Carbonero, a Spanish TV reporter who he eventually married. The footage also shows Hermoso speaking to her teammates from Spain about the incident as she says:

‘My goodness. Haven’t you seen it? He comes over all enthusiastic and hugs me like this [holds up her hands near her head].’ Her teammates are seen shouting “kiss, kiss, kiss” on the team bus.
