Thierry Henry named MLS club Montreal Impact manager after turbulent AS Monaco spell

Thierry Henry has been named as new head coach of the MLS side Montreal Impact. The Arsenal legend has signed a two-year deal with the American league club with the option of 12 months extension. Henry ended his illustrious playing career at New York Red Bulls after serving them for four years. After the move got completed, Henry said It’s an honour to coach the Montreal Impact and return to the MLS.

The 42-year-old added that MLS is a well-known league and he has some very fond memories during the course of his playing career over there. Henry said that it will be great to be in Montreal which has an enormous multicultural heritage. He expressed that he has always kept an eye on the club and he is happy that he is going to manage them now. Thierry Henry started his coaching career in Arsenal’s academy and was under Roberto Martinez as Belgium’s assistant manager. Thierry Henry got his first big chance when he bagged the opportunity to manage his former club AS Monaco. But the legendary striker failed miserably in France as he just managed to win four games out of 20. Henry was sacked from the Monaco job after three months.

According to reports, Thierry Henry will be present in front of the media on Monday and will begin his role in January ahead of the MLS 2020 season. Kevin Gilmore, the President and CEO of Montreal Impact said that they take a lot of pride in announcing the arrival of Henry to their club. Gilmore feels that Henry is going to bring energy in the club which will definitely help them achieve their goal on and off the field. According to Montreal’s CEO, Henry is a competitor and a leader who has achieved glory at the highest level and his qualities will be helping Montreal now, a place where Henry wanted to be.
