Thierry Henry to coach Montreal Impact: The French legend's managerial career so far

Arsenal and France legend Thierry Henry has returned to Major League Soccer (MLS) as the head coach for Canada's Montreal Impact. Henry has signed a two-year deal with the club. He replaces Wilmer Cabrera, who in turn replaced Remi Garde in August 2019 after a poor run of one win in eight matches. Henry has already spent around four seasons at the MLS, playing for New York Red Bulls. Let us look at his earlier stints as a coach.

Arsenal academy coach

The 42-year-old had already begun his coaching career for the Arsenal Academy in 2015. He was about to be appointed as the coach for the Under-18 team but the decision was over-ruled by Arsene Wenger. The Arsenal boss wanted a full-time coach for that position.

Belgium's assistant coach 

Henry got another opportunity as an assistant coach of the Belgian national team in August 2016 alongside Roberto Martinez. He played an instrumental role in the Red Devils’ advance to the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, in which they went on to finish third after defeating England for the third place and picked up a bronze medal.

Monaco head coach 

In October 2018, he was appointed as the head coach of Monaco, replacing Leonardo Jardim at the Ligue 1 side, where he started his professional career as a player. He signed a three-year contract with the club. After an unsuccessful stint at the club, which lasted for merely three months, he was let off after 20 matches. Some of the matches that Henry would not want to remember would include a 1-5 home defeat to Strasbourg and a 1-3 defeat at Stade Louis II by Ligue 2 side Metz in the French Cup. Henry left with a record of 4 wins, 5 draws, and 11 defeats from his 20 games in charge.
