Toni Kroos ridicules European Super League idea, calls players 'puppets of FIFA & UEFA'

Toni Kroos has slammed the idea of the creation of the European Super League, another competition which would cramp up the fixtures list even more.

Real Mrid midfielder Toni Kroos is t happy with idea of creation of European Super League. German midfielder has accused FIFA and UEFA of treating footballers like "puppets", and creating new tournaments at both, club and football level just to "absorb everything financially, and squeeze players physically."

Talk of a new European Super League being formed by top football clubs in Europe has been gaining momentum in recent months. Last month, former Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu told reporters that club has accepted an invitation to play in newly-formed Super League. "This would guarantee financial viability of club going forwards. We have accepted future Club World Cup," told reporters when asked about European Super League. 

In dition to to-be-created tournament, UEFA Nations League was introduced a couple of years back, with aim of replacing international friendlies. Also, expanded format of  FIFA Club World Cup was set to be played this year in China. However, it has since been postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Toni Kroos slams European Super League idea

Toni Kroos recently joined his bror, Fenix, on his podcast Einfach b Luppen. As quoted by Marca, Kroos said during podcast, "Unfortunately, we do t decide as players. We are just puppets of FIFA and UEFA. If re were a players’ union, we would t play a Nations League or a Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia. se competitions try to absorb everything financially, and y also to squeeze players physically. I am a big fan of leaving things as y are when y are going well. leagues are alrey hugely demanding along with Champions League, World Cup etc."

former Bayern Munich midfielder ded that European Super League is an interesting proposition, considering it will feature only "high-level matches" which would be entertaining for fans from a sporting point of view. 30-year-old, however, said completion will also result furr broening gap between bigger and smaller clubs. "t always everything has to be more, faster, more and more money."

Toni Kroos, who is currently on national duty with  Germany squ, was rested on Wednesday night as Germany scored a 1-0 friendly win against Czech Republic. 2014 World Cup winner is expected to return for national side as Joachim Loew's men prepare for ir Nations League double-heer against Ukraine (home) and Spain (away). Germany occupy second place in ir group with 1 win and three draws in four matches.
