UEFA: Bulgaria vs England racism charges set to be heard on October 28

European football's governing body, the UEFA has decided to investigate racism charges levelled against Bulgaria on October 28, 2019. The UEFA's disciplinary commission will investigate charges of monkey chants and Nazi salutes that were made by Bulgarian fans to England's players during the Bulgaria vs England Euro 2020 qualifying match in Sofia a few days ago.

Bulgaria vs England racism: Racists charged

An 18-year-old was charged on Wednesday for using Nazi salutes at the match and four others have been fined and banned from sports events for two years. So far, 15 people have been singled out via CCTV at the Vasil Levski National Stadium as being suspected of directing abuse against England's black players.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino had expressed his willingness to press for a worldwide ban on spectators who abuse black footballers.

England had defeated Bulgaria 6-0 in the match. However, it was twice halted before half-time due to racist abuse directed at the England players. England captain Harry Kane spoke to referee Ivan Bebek after 28 minutes of the first half, as per part one of UEFA's three-step protocol. The second step would lead the referee to suspend the match for a period of time and the third would be to abandon the match.

Bulgarian officials have reportedly confirmed to the media that six people have been detained, three are wanted and two have been summoned and expected to report to the police to testify.
