Lionel Messi was banned from international football with Argentina for three months after his comments regarding the refereeing during the Copa America earlier this year. However, the Barcelona talisman made his return for Argentina during the 1-0 win over Brazil earlier this week. It looks like Lionel Messi is making the most of his return, after the Barcelona mainstay grabbed headlines during an incident with Uruguay's Edinson Cavani during Argentina's 2-2 draw against Uruguay in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Lionel Messi provides a fitting response to Edinson Cavani's offer

After signalling Brazil coach Tite to "shut up" during the win over Brazil, Lionel Messi was once again in the spotlight as he was involved in an altercation with Uruguay's Edinson Cavani. Cavani put Uruguay ahead after 34 minutes. However, the Albiceleste refused to go down to their South American neighbours. With the pressure piling on Argentina, a heavy tackle on Lionel Messi seemed to spark off an altercation between Edinson Cavani and Lionel Messi. Uruguay's centre-back Diego Godin was seen trying to calm down the two, but the pair almost came to blows during the incident. It appears that Cavani reportedly made Lionel Messi an offer he couldn't refuse, as he offered to fight the Barcelona legend. Lionel Messi reportedly replied by saying "whenever you want" to the Paris Saint-Germain striker. While Diego Godin was at hand to defuse the situation, Lionel Messi and Edinson Cavani are reported to have carried their feud through to the tunnel after the half-time whistle.

This is the second time in four days that Lionel Messi has been grabbing the headlines, and not for his footballing prowess. While Lionel Messi has never shied away from confrontation, the Barcelona forward has been indulging his mean streak in his last couple of games with Argentina. It appears that the three-month CONMEBOL ban has reinvigorated the Argentina captain, as evident by his frictional return to international football. Edinson Cavani, meanwhile, is hoping for more international breaks, as he finds game time hard to come by with PSG.
