As the 2024-25 season approaches, newly appointed Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has a task ahead of himself. He joins Barcelona at a time when the football club has fallen from it's best form and is facing a severe financial crisis with over a debt of around 500 Million Euros. Barcelona have had to take some tough decisions and sell several big name players in order to get back on track financially.
Apart from the financial issues Barcelona have not had success in their hunt for silverware as they bowed out in the Champions League, Supercopa de Espana and the Copa Del Ray. They also only managed to finish second in the league behind rivals Real Madrid.
Xavi Out, Flick In
Barcelona legend and manager Xavi Hernandez was relieved of his responsibilities as the manager of the club after his comments did not sit well with the Barca president. The responsibility was then handed over to ex-Germany and Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick. Flick will be trying to get Barcelona back on track both on the pitch and financially.
The departure of several big players from the club such as Sergio Roberto have also freed up funds. Several young stars such as Mikayil Faye would also be sold to make up space in the team and to free up funds.
Decision Regarding Mikayil Faye
As the new season draws closer and closer, Hansi Flick has to decide who will be the core team players. Barcelona have an excess of players in the central defender position with currently 8 center backs in the team. The decision to sell French defender Clement Lenglet has already been made as he will depart from the club.
Mikayil Faye will get little to no playing time in the upcoming season so it would make sense to sell the player. This move would free up an already crowded position and get Barcelona some much needed funds.
