After Surviving a Life-Threatening Crash, Indian F2 Driver Kush Maini Faces Sanctions From The FIA

After surviving a life-threatening crash during the Formula 2 Feature Race in Baku, Indian Driver Kush Maini, of Invicta Racing, has been penalized by the FIA.

The F2 Feature Race in Baku, Azerbaijan was marred with a red flag after multiple cars collided at the beginning of the race. Invicta driver Kush Maini, MP Motorsport’s Oliver Goethe and Campos driver Pepe Marti were involved in what looked like a life-threatening collision. Maini's car was stalled in his grid slot even though the race began which is when Goethe smacked into Maini's stationary Invicta's rear, which flipped his car and it hit the pit wall upside down. Fortunately, all of the drivers came out safe and unharmed. But Maini was handed sanctions by the FIA and Formula 2 after what transpired in Baku.

Kush Maini Faces Sanctions From FIA, Formula 2 After Scary Incident at Feature Race in Azerbaijan

After surviving a life-threatening crash during the Formula 2 Feature Race in Baku, Indian Driver Kush Maini, of Invicta Racing, has been penalized by the FIA. The race driver has been handed two post-race sanctions. Maini's car allegedly breached the F2 Technical regulations, which specify the failure to engage the start-up regimen at the Feature Race's beginning.  

"The Stewards received a report from the Technical Delegate that Car 9’s data indicated that the driver did not engage the start set-up procedure for the start of the Feature Race, as required by the F2 2024 System User Manual.

"It constituted a breach of Article 1.6.1 of the FIA Formula 2 Technical Regulations and Article 10.15 of the F2 2024 System User Manual. Consequently, Maini has been disqualified from the Baku Feature Race classification," The FIA Formula 2 said in a statement.

After a thorough inspection of the stewards, it was determined that Car Nine failed to engage the start-up procedure at the beginning of the race, which led to his car stalling on the grid which caused the collision. The Invicta Racing drive was held fully responsible for the incident. Kush Maini was given a 10-second time penalty, but the sanction has been changed to a five-place grid penalty because he did not complete the Feature Race. Maini will serve out his sentence at his subsequent race.
