Lando Norris CRUSHES Max Verstappen At Home As McLaren Register Statement Win At Dutch GP
Lando Norris and McLaren have made a statement as they beat Max Verstappen and Red Bull to win Dutch GP 2024 by a margin of 22.8 seconds.
The Max Verstappen dominance at Zandvoort is over as Lando Norris completely crushed the reigning F1 World Champion to win the Dutch Grand Prix with a margin of 22.8 seconds and take a big step in challenging Red Bull and Verstappen for the drivers and constructors championship.
Max Verstappen was unbeaten at his home race in Dutch GP but McLaren and Norris put together the perfect race to end Max's dominance. By winning the Dutch GP, McLaren and Lando have taken a big step towards beating Red Bull in the Drivers and Constructors Championship. McLaren now trail Red Bull by only 30 points in the Constructors Championship.
Lando Norris and McLaren dominate
Much was expected from Lando Norris at the start of the race as he was starting on pole. But once again Lando Norris stumbled at the race start and was taken over by Max Verstappen in turn 1 itself.
Lando Norris' terrible race start meant that he's now started from pole 6 times in his career and has lost the lead in the first lap itself on all six occasions.
However, Lando Norris and McLaren got their act together and Norris soon started to eat into Max's lead. Max Verstappen's medium tires started to give way sooner than expected and in the 18th lap of the race Lando Norris came into DRS range of Max Verstappen and pulled off an excellent overtake to take the lead of the race.
Verstappen and Red Bull tried the undercut but McLaren were simply faster on the day and Norris came out of the pits and was still almost 3 seconds clear of Max. Since then McLaren and Lando Norris neer really looked back and put night and day between themselves and Max's Red Bull as they pulled 18 seconds clear.
Final race classification of Dutch GP
Charles Leclerc pulled off a fantastic race to round out the Podium as he finished P3 and McLaren's Oscar Piastri came home to finish P4 to round out a solid point haul for the men from Woking. Carlos Sainz finished P5 as both Ferrari cars finished inside Top 5.
It was another disappointing outing for Sergio Perez as he finished P6. For Mercedes the race started out with much promise with George Russel in the podium positions. However, a disappointing second stint meant that George Russel finished P7 and Lewis Hamilton P8.
Alpine's Pierre Gasly came P9 and Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso acquired the final points position with P10.
