Lewis Hamilton to Honor Ayrton Senna By Driving His Iconic Car At Interlagos
The F1 released a statement revealing that Lewis Hamilton will pay tribute to the legendary Brazilian driver, Ayrton Senna, at the 2024 Brazilian GP. Hamilton will be driving Senna's iconic 1990 McLaren MP4/5B and will do a special lap after qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix.
“But I never in a million years thought I’d ever get to drive Senna’s car here. I remember someone contacted me, my manager told me about it, and I jumped at the opportunity. Back in the day when I was at McLaren, I did get the chance to drive the MP4/4 around Silverstone, which was incredible.

“Just the thought of driving that car around here… I remember the races when he finally won here and held the flag. It will definitely be quite an emotional experience and I hope people are here to see it. I had a helmet made, his helmet made, I don’t know if we’re using that one," Lewis Hamilton expressed.

Although the news leaked before the race weekend, Lewis Hamilton stated that the demonstration run was supposed to be a surprise for the fans who would be at the circuit for the race.
The iconic car was a prominent part of Senna's historic F1 run, helping him win his second career world championship. It was also the first F1 car he raced at Interlagos, finishing third in the 1990 Brazilian Grand Prix. Formula 1 has done a remarkable job by honouring the three-time champion's legacy, and the upcoming race will be nothing less than exemplary.
