Gavaskar speaks on ways to make sports 'affordable' in India
Sunil Gavaskar, former cricketer has come out to speak about sports and the ways to make it affordable during a panel discussion on 'Making sports in India'

Sunil Gavaskar, former cricketer, has recently spoken about sports and many ways to make it affordable during a panel discussion on 'Making sports in India'. Gavaskar stated that sports should be me affordable. He also stated that sports should be a part of school curriculum. As a consequence, it can be considered as a career option, furr creating a positive atmosphere for sports in country. Sunil Gavaskar ded that when it comes to sports, India's biggest plus is population. Hence, it should t be difficult to find people who would excel in different sports across world.

Making sports affordable
Gavaskar, in reference to making sports affordable, stated that re are essentially three things to make it inexpensive. Firstly, act of playing sports should be affordable, to begin with. Secondly, it should be part of school curriculum. Thirdly, to make people understand that being in sports could be a career option that y could consider.

' moment sport becomes a career option, n everybody, child, parents y all get involved in that. n schools can come in and help by making sports part of ir curriculum. I think n we have a win-win situation.' Gavaskar stated.
On promoting sports in India
Aparna Popat, former bminton player, stated that sports should t be seen from point of just winning medals. She cited example of Rio Olympics-2016, stating that 11,200 athletes from over 200 nations were participating but only 366 medals were distributed. She ded that if funds could be efficiently put toger, sports in India can achieve a lot more. Ashwini Nachappa, former sprinter was moderating discussion. She gave a presentation on initiatives by Ashwini Sports Foundation in Kodagu. Jitu Virwani, founder of Equestrian Acemy, stated that channelising CSR mandates of corporates would bring in a positive atmosphere for sports in country. or panellists were Volvo India President and Managing Director Kamal Bali and sports journalist, Suresh Men.
