Despite their remarkable achievements on the international stage, India’s hockey stars are facing an unexpected challenge: a lack of recognition from fans. In a candid moment, midfielder Hardik Singh recounted a particularly disheartening experience at an airport, where he and several teammates found themselves overshadowed by the social media sensation, Dolly Chaiwala.
The Indian hockey team has not only secured back-to-back bronze medals in the Tokyo and Paris Olympics but also claimed gold at the recent Asian Champions Trophy by defeating China in a thrilling final. India reached the final undefeated and successfully defended their crown.

India's hockey star shares embarrassing story
“We were at the airport, just after winning back-to-back medals at the Olympics . Harmanpreet, Mandeep, and a few others were with me,” Hardik shared during a recent podcast on YouTube.
“And there was Dolly Chaiwala. Fans were rushing to take selfies with him, completely ignoring us. We looked at each other and felt awkward,” he added.
Dolly Chaiwala, known for his unique tea-making style and charismatic personality, has gained a massive following, even serving tea to the likes of billionaire Bill Gates.

India at the Asian Champions Trophy 2024
Defending champions India eked out a fighting 1-0 win over hosts China to claim their fifth Hero Asian Champions Trophy hockey title here on Tuesday.
It was not easy for the favourites and Paris Olympics bronze medallist as they failed to break the Chinese defence in the first three quarters.
Eventually, defender Jugraj Singh broke the deadlock as he scored a rare field goal in the 51st minute to hand his team the title.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan defeated Korea 5-2 to claim the third spot in the six-team competition.
