Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju congratulated the Women's hockey team for qualifying in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The Union Minister took to Twitter to express his excitement and said that he is waiting for the men's hockey team to qualify as well.
'Dream to see India getting back its lost glory'
In the video that he shared on Twitter, he said that it's his dream to see India get back its lost glory and top the charts in the world of Hockey. Since Hockey has been the national game and pride of India, Rijiju assured of creating a broad base for the sport in the country and he has also spoken to Narendra Batra, regarding the matter. Narendra Batra is the president of the International Hockey Federation. Rijiju announced that the task of creating a broad base for the sport has been envisioned in cooperation with Indian Olympic Association and Hockey Federation.
"Today, the entire Hockey Federation, the players are happy with the arrangement. We don't want any kind of lacking in terms of support. All necessary support is provided. And from the government side, we will do everything, not only hockey but other sports as well, but Hockey is the priority right now. My best wishes to both, Indian men and women who are playing their qualifier match," Rijiju said.
Rijiju was at a venue in Bhubaneshwar, Odhisha, where the Hockey matches were going to be played. He spoke highly of the crowd that turned up in huge numbers to support the team. Speaking of their enthusiasm for the sport, Rijiju said, "With the enthusiastic supporters in Odhisha here in Bhubaneshwar, our team will get extra energy by their enthusiasm."
