IAAF World Athletics Championships: Men's javelin throw preview

IAAF World Athletics Championships is scheduled to take place from September 27 to October 6, 2019, at the multi-purpose Khalifa Stadium in Doha, Qatar.

IAAF World Championships is scheduled to take place from September 27 to October 6, 2019, at multi-purpose Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar. However, men's javelin throw Group B competition is scheduled to start on October 5, 2019, at 8:30 pm IST. Group A competition will also take place on October 5, 2019, but it will start at 7:30 IST. finals of javelin throw competition will take place on October 6, 2019, at 10:25 pm IST.

Despite qualifying for IAAF World Championships, Neeraj Chopra won’t be participating in competition because of an injury. Apart from Neeraj, top Indian athletes like Hima Das (400m individual and relay), and Tejaswin Shankar (high jump) will also be missing out due to injury. Neeraj won 2016 edition of IAAF World U20 championship, and also set world junior record of 86.48m at U20 championships. Chopra was n selected to become flag-bearer at opening ceremony for India at 2018 Asian Games, which marked his first Asian Games appearance.

IAAF World Athletics Championships: Javelin throw details

An athlete has to use only one arm and throw a metal-tipped javelin as far as possible. athlete must hold 800g, 2.6m-2.7m long javelin by its corded grip with his little finger closest to tip of implement. For throw to be measured, an athlete has to throw javelin over his shoulder, and he should keep in mind to t cross scratch line. athlete must t turn his or her back to landing area at any st during ir approach and throw. most important rule is that javelin must also land tip first and within marked 29-degree sector. Athletes are given four or six chances to throw a Javelin in a competition. In event of a tie, winner will be athlete with next-best effort.
