India reportedly made an official bid to host Olympics in 2036 

India has formally indicated that it would like to host Summer Olympics in 2036. Significantly advancing bid process, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has sent a Letter of Intent to International Olympic Committee (IOC). Although a formal statement has yet to be issued, many media sites have ted submission based on trustworthy sources. letters, according to sources, were sent on October 1, 2024, thus preparing India for maybe hosting elite worldwide athletic event before 2050.

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has submitted a 'Letter of Intent', expressing country's desire to host 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games, to International Olympic Committee's Future Host Commission, taking first concrete step in an ambitious plan. letter was submitted on October 1, according to a source in sports ministry.

One Substantial Step Towards PM Modi's Dream

"This monumental opportunity could bring substantial benefits, fostering ecomic growth, social progress, and youth empowerment across country," source added. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had first talked about his government's aspiration to host 2036 Olympics last year.

A decision on host will t be taken before IOC elections next year and India will also have to face competition from several or nations like Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey, who are positioning mselves as strong contenders to host sporting spectacle. India's plan has been backed by current IOC head Thomas Bach. last time India hosted an international multi-sport extravaganza was 2010 Commonwealth Games here.

But for 2036 Olympics, Ahmedabad is being seen as a front-runner to be host city.

India's top sports administrators, including IOA President PT Usha, were at Paris Olympics earlier this year to lobby for country. It is also learnt that India would be pushing for inclusion of indigeus disciplines like yoga, kho kho and kabaddi if bid is successful. Sports Authority of India's Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) has even presented a detailed report on measures needed for a successful bid to new sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

In this document, MOC has identified six disciplines, including yoga, kho kho, kabaddi, chess, T20 cricket and squash for inclusion in Games if country gets to host quadrennial extravaganza.

However, IOA is also mired in controversy owing to a tug of war between Usha and body's Executive Council, which has steadfastly refused to ratify appointment of her choice for CEO's position, Raghuram Iyer
