IOC committed for a successful 2020 Tokyo Olympics; thanks WHO for valuable information

In a statement released on Tuesday afternoon, the IOC Executive Board stated that they are committed to successfully conduct the Tokyo Games.

International Olympic Committee (IOC), on Tuesday, expressed full commitment for upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In a statement released on Tuesday afteron, IOC Executive Board stated that y are committed to successfully conduct Games.

Committed for a successful event

" IOC EB heard a report on all measures taken so far to address coronavirus situation, which was followed by a comprehensive discussion. A joint task force had already been created in mid-February, involving IOC, Tokyo 2020, host city of Tokyo, government of Japan and World Health Organization (WHO). IOC EB appreciates and supports measures being taken, which constitute an important part of Tokyo’s plans to host safe and secure Games.

IOC will continue to follow advice of WHO, as leading United Nations ncy on this topic. IOC EB expressed its thanks to WHO for its continued valuable advice and cooperation."

IOC urged athletes to continue preparation for Games and stated that it will keep on updating information for athletes. "It also praised great unity and solidarity of athletes, National Olympic Committees, International Federations and governments. It welcomed ir close collaboration and flexibility with regard to preparations for Games, and particularly qualification events. All stakeholders continue to work closely toger to address challenges of coronavirus."

statement comes a Tokyo Olympic test event featuring Paralympic wheelchair rugby was called off because of virus outbreak. Tokyo organizers on Tuesday said Japan Para Sports Association cancelled event in line with Japan government policy that is discouraging large-crowd event over next several weeks, a move aimed at stemming spread of virus.
