Jacksonville University call it quits; Dolphins to discontinue Division I program

The Jacksonville University Dolphins have announced that they will discontinue their Division I program effective immediately, citing lack of feasibility.

Jacksonville University Dolphins have called time on ir footballing conquests, university anunced on Tuesday, December 3. university has decided to discontinue its Division I program, effective immediately. Speaking after anuncement, Jacksonville University said that it spent more than a year evaluating its athletic department and exploring ways to position itself for long-term growth and success. However, shutting down its Division I program seemed like best avenue after consultation with "experienced, independent consultants" who conducted a "data-driven evaluation" of feasibility of investing in a Division I athletics program.

Jacksonville University lay out reasons for ir decision

Jacksonville Dolphins have played in n-scholarship Pioneer Football League since 1998. Interestingly, y finished 2019 season 3-9 overall and 1-7 in conference action. Jacksonville University Athletic Director Alex Ricker-Gilbert said that shutting down football program stood out as best path forward for Jacksonville athletics as a whole. He continued by saying that after detailed research, it was clear that resources required to support football program at university outweigh benefits to overall athletics department and university itself.

Furr proof of Jacksonville University's decision to call time on ir Division I program is fact that y averd 1,807 fans over six home games - second-lowest attendance aver in league and sixth-lowest in Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). However, university did provide some respite on back of this major decision. Jacksonville University is offering full-tuition scholarships to every football player who chooses to stay at school until gruation. university also will hour contracts of all football coaches and assist in ir job searches after deciding to scrap Dolphins' football program.
