Kapil Dev comes out as a golf champion in the AVT Champions Tour

Kapil Dev came out as a champion in the 60-64 individual age category in the two-day Pune leg of AVT Champions Tour in the 60-64 individual age category.

The two-day Pune leg of AVT Champions Tour saw the participation of over 100 golfers from 10 cities across the country which included the former cricket player Kapil Dev. Dev came out as a champion in the 60-64 individual age category. Speaking about the win, Dev said that it is always a 'good feeling'. He further added that the AVT Champions Tour is a good initiative to make senior golfers play more often.

"Winning is always a good feeling. The AVT Tour is a brilliant step towards helping us senior amateur golfers play more consistently now for a goal. The senior's Tour has revived the competitive spirit and winning amongst some really talented golfers is a feeling that is worth being cherished," Kapil Dev said in a statement.

Kapil Dev acing golf 

The AVT Champions Tour has been initiated for senior golfers. It is the only second national-senior (50 years and above) golf tournament in India. The two-day event witnessed 100 golfers participating in the Pune Leg from 10 different cities. Kapil Dev came out as a winner along with the All India Senior Golf Champion Vijay Kumar, who was the runner-up in the respective category. Tasreem Kazi took home the individual prize for women golfers.

The AVT Champions Tour

Gangesh Khaitan, former All India Senior Golf Champion, was the winner in the individual age category of 65 and above. Rishi Narain, former Asian Games gold medalist and 2018 IGU Senior All India National Champion was the winner in the 55-59 individual age category. He is also the winner of the first leg of the AVT Champions Tour. Four AVT events are touted to take place this year. It will be played to supplement the National Championship. As a consequence, tournament practice will be provided to the Indian team for the forthcoming international events like the Asia Pacific.
