About Plogging
Plogging is an exercise, a combination of jogging along with picking up litter. Plogging originated as an organised activity in Sweden around 2016 and spread to other countries around 2018 due to the increased concern about plastic pollution. The activity serves the purpose of exercising the body by jogging, bending, squatting and stretching while picking up litter along the route.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his visit to Tamil Nadu for the informal summit with Chinese President, performed the activity on the beach of Mahabalipuram in order to lead by example for the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'. As the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan' has been a storm in the country, doubled by Prime Minister's concern towards increasing plastic pollution, several people across the country have become sensitive to the issue of plastic pollution.
