According to Golden State Warriors' coach Steve Kerr, it is unlikely that Klay Thompson will play the NBA 2019-20 regular season. The star guard is currently recovering from a torn ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament). Thompson tore his left knee's ACL during the 2019 NBA finals Game 6 on June 13. Golden State Warriors have their first NBA 2019-20 regular season game on Friday, October 25, against LA Clippers.

NBA news: Klay Thompson injury update
Last month, general manager Bob Myers revealed that the five-time All-Star will not play until at least the All-Star break. In a recent interview with American media, Kerr said that Thompson might 'realistically' miss the entire season taking the recovery time needed for a torn ACL into consideration. He said that it is unlikely that Thompson might play this year, and the team will have to understand and accept that. Kerr clarified his comments later, saying that there might be some chance that the star guard might play this year. He said that his comments were 'matter of fact', and he was generally talking about the recovery time of an ACL tear, which is 9-12 months. After nine months, the season end will be near. He also mentioned that he is not making any announcement, and Thompson is doing great in rehab and can still return.

Thompson underwent surgery to repair his ACL tear on July 2. Myers also clarified that the All-Star break is meant for Thompson's status update and not a probable period for his return. Kerr also admitted that he should not have commented on the situation, and asked the people to calculate on their own. As April 1 will be the nine-month mark after the surgery, one can only hope for the best. In the meantime, Golden State Warriors will focus on training the youngsters who will play instead of Klay Thompson, developing their skills. These players can then be in the rotation and contribute more during the playoffs. Thompson also talked about the situation in an interview last month. Though he wants to play, he believes patience is a virtue and it will be a mistake to be hasty about the process.
