Arjun Vajpai Makes India Proud, Becomes First Indian To Scale Mt. Shishapangma In China
Indian mountaineer Arjun Vajpai has made headlines once again as he successfully reached the summit of Mt. Shishapangma and became the first Indian to do so.

Arjun Vajpai, the youngest person to climb Mt. Everest has made India proud once again. On 9th October 2024, when Arjun Vajpai stood on top of Mt. Shishapangma, he completed his 8th successful summit and registered a total of 4 records all together. Arjun Vajpai who embarked on this journey of scaling all 14 at the age of 16 in 2010, has successfully summited 8 of the 14 peaks till date.
On Completing all 14, Vajpai will become the the 1st Indian to be a part of the elite list of mountaineers. With his historical feat of scaling Mt. Shishapangma, he has become the 1st Indian to ascent Mt. Shishapangma and broken the record for the the fastest ascent of Mt. Shishapangma which includes Base camp to Summit and back to Base camp in under 72 hours. He became the 1st Indian to successfully stand on the top of eight 8000m mountains and made the record for the fastest Indian ascent of a 8000m peak in China.
How Arjun Climbed Mt. Shishapangma
Arjun successfully climbed Shishapangma peak at 7:45 am IST. The information about this expedition had also been given to China-Tibet Mountaineering Association. After enduring this difficult journey and creating history Arjun informed his father Sanjeev Vajpayee about his success through satellite phone.
It is worth noting that climbing Shishapangma peak is extremely risky and till now 25 climbers have lost their lives while conquering this peak.
At just the age of 30 years Arjun had already been awarded a Guinness World Record for being the youngest person to climb Mt Everest in 2010 and Mt Lhotse in 2011. This victory of Shishapangma has once again made India proud and is a testament to his never ending search for excellence.
Arjun's Challenges And The Success That Followed
Arjun's journey has been full of many challenges as he had become paralyzed during an expedition to Choyu peak and underwent treatment for close to six months.
With his indomitable willpower, Arjun overcame all the obstacles, driven by his passion for mountaineering and today he has made the entire country proud. 16 expeditions on 8000-meter peaks and 8 victorious summits are a testament to Arjun's unwavering spirit.
