New Delhi: Olympic sensation Manu Bhaker on Saturday cast her vote in the ongoing Haryana Assembly elections. The Indian athlete cast her vote at a polling station in Jhajjar. Emphasising on the importance of voting, Manu said that being the youth of this country it's our responsibility to vote for the right candidate.
“Being the youth of this country, it is our responsibility to cast our vote for the most favourable candidate. Small steps lead to big goals. I voted for the first time,” said Manu Bhaker after casting her vote.
Furthermore, her father, Ram Kishan Bhaker, also expressed his feelings after casting his vote. He said, "Manu is the brand ambassador and a youth icon for voting. She had to come. We vote in every election. How will our village develop if we do not vote... I would request everyone to come out and vote. It's better to come out today than to curse the government for the next five years..."
Polling is currently underway in Haryana on October 5 for the 90-membered legislative assembly with results awaited on October 8. Polling began at 7 AM on Saturday, across 20,629 polling booths in the state. The election results will be announced on October 8, with the vote counting taking place alongside that of Jammu and Kashmir.
The state has 90 Assembly seats, and 1,031 candidates, including 101 women, are contesting the elections. A total of 20,629 polling booths have been set up across the state.
After the intense campaign concluded, the Bhartiya Janata Party aimed for a third consecutive term, meanwhile the Congress would be hoping for a comeback after a decade.
