Mehuli shoots 10m air rifle gold in SAG as India sweeps all medals

Indian shooters swept all medals on offer in women's 10m air rifle event in 13th South Asian Games in Kathmandu on Tuesday, with Mehuli Ghosh winning gold with a score better than world record.

Efforts in vain?
Mehuli's effort will, however, t be considered as a world record, as South Asian Games' results are t recognised by international body (ISSF) for purpose of records. India also won team gold in 10m air rifle event.
19-year-old Mehuli clinched gold with a score of 253.3 in final, which is 0.4 more than current world record of 252.9 which is in name of ar Indian, Apurvu Chandela. Shriyanka Sangi took silver with a score of 250.8, while Shreya Agrawal (227.2) clinched bronze in a 1-2-3 podium finish by Indians at Satdobato Shooting Range.

"As far as I understand, SAG results will t be recognised for record purposes. Only results of World Cups, World Championships and quota events are considered for record purposes by ISSF. Moreover, re will have to be an ISSF referee in an event if results are to be considered for records," a top NRAI official told PTI.

Mehuli h won a 10m air rifle silver in 2018 ISSF World Championships. She h also won silver medals in 2018 Commonwealth Games and Youth Olympics.
