Dustin Poirier confirms he is leaning towards RETIREMENT from UFC but unable to take final call

Dustin Poirier aka 'The Diamond' is unsure whether to retire or continue in UFC after his loss to Islam Makhachev in UFC 302.

‘The Diamond’ Dustin Poirier fought for the lightweight title against Islam Makhachev in the UFC 302 and only just lost out in the final round after a stunning Darce Choke by Islam forced Dustin into submission. 

Dustin Poirier immediate reaction after the losing the fight was to confirm to Joe Rogan that it could well be his last fight. However, Poirier has come out and confirmed that despite his inclination towards hanging up his gloves, he is unable to take a final call.

Dustin Poirier leans towards retirement but unable to take a call

Dustin Poirier has certainly emerged as one of the iconic figures in UFC due to his gritty and gutsy fighting. In his latest interaction with Ariel Halwani of the MMA Hour. Poirier all but confirmed that he is close to retiring but he doesn't know if he still wants to continue or not.

“Close. But I am never going to lay my gloves down on the mat like that. Like I tell you every time, this could be my last fight everyone in the past couple of years I felt like that. But I don't know. I am kind of looking for clarity, searching for myself, but I don't know yet,” said Poirier. 

Dustin Poirier futher said that if he wants to fight again then it would have to be for something meaningful.

“I can't say I'll never fight again but I just don't know the reason what am I going to be fighting for. I am taking at one day. I am leaning towards being done (more so than ever). How many more times would I need to fight to put myself back into the position of a world title. I don't know. I am not going to fight five more times just to try and earn another title shot. I am in a weird spot and I am taking it day by day,” said Dustin Poirier.

If Dustin Poirier does end up retiring then he will certainly retire as a fan favorite and one of the most fearsome fighters the Octagon has seen despite never winning a World title.
