Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the most successful captains of the Indian Cricket Team. The former skipper has proved his talent and worth, gaining a loyal fan-base worldwide. If you have seen ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story’ (2016), you are familiar with a variety of his hidden talents. Before establishing himself as a cricketer, Dhoni used to dabble in all kinds of sports. Dhoni’s reflexes are the foundation of his exceptional wicket-keeping skills. It was also why a 12-year-old Mahi opted as a football goalkeeper. If not for his first coach Keshav Banerjee, Mahendra would never have taken up cricket. The coach spotted Dhoni’s talent early-on and coaxed him to train as a wicketkeeper. Mahi picked up the necessary skills, albeit slowly. He then played for the local cricket club, which made him the player we all see today. Even today, Dhoni loves to flaunt his football skills and has played for several charity matches in Mumbai. He was also spotted playing football with Bollywood actors like Arjun Kapoor. The keeper-batsman himself admits that football played a significant role in his career. He was selected for district and club level football in school.

MS Dhoni's badminton prowess
MS Dhoni’s badminton prowess is not popularly known. Just as for football, he had qualified at the district and club level for badminton. He excelled at the game and used to play it to keep himself in shape. Later in his career, Dhoni still played badminton in his spare time. In an interview, Mahi admitted that badminton too, helped him stay fit. He usually frequents badminton courts at stadiums.

MS Dhoni unwinds with billiards and volleyball
Mahi usually opted for Billiards or Pool, to increase his concentration for a game. Recently, he was spotted playing Pool before his return as the Chennai Super Kings captain. He was also captured on film while playing volleyball with his army battalion. Additionally, he also indulges in a game of golf once in a while. MSD celebrated National Sports Day by playing golf with cricketer Kedar Jadhav.

Looking at the assortment of sports Dhoni plays, it is safe to conclude that he is a man of many talents. The cricketer is also an honorary lieutenant colonel in the Territorial Army. MS also co-owns the Indian Super League team ‘Chennaiyin FC’ with Abhishek Bachchan and industrialist Vita Dani. During his captaincy, the Indian Team won the ICC World Twenty20 (2007), the Asia Cups (2010 and 2016), the ICC Cricket World Cup (2011), and the ICC Champions Trophy (2013). Mahi last played for India on 9th July 2019, which was an ODI against New Zealand.
