National Sports Day is observed on August 29, every year in India. Today marks the celebration of Major Dhyan Chand, one of India's most outstanding sportsperson and hockey icon. The day honours his birth date as well as the value of physical exercise and sports in our life. Along with the Indian hockey squad, Major Dhyan Chand had helped India win their first ever three successive gold medals from the Summer Olympics of 1928, 1932 and 1936.
