NFL announce schedule for 2020 season

The NFL has announced its schedule for the 2020 season with defending champions Kansas City Chiefs hosting Houston Texans to kick-off the new year on 10th September.

Currently the NFL is planning on staging a full 16 game regular season in 2020 despite coronavirus forcing other sports leagues to postpone or cancel campaigns.

Super Bowl LV is due to be played in Tampa, Florida on 7th February next year.

The Buccaneers, now with six-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady at quarterback, will aim to become the first team ever to win the Lombardi Trophy at its own stadium.

Brady will be joined in Florida by former New England teammate Rob Gronkowski who has returned from retirement to join Tampa Bay.

Elsewhere in the league, the Raiders have relocated from Oakland to Las Vegas after 25 years in the East Bay to become the first professional football team to be based in Nevada.

The Rams and Chargers are also due to begin playing at their new stadium which is nearing completion in Los Angeles.

Building work at SoFi Stadium has continued during the coronavirus crisis and with an estimated construction cost of nearly $5 billion it is the most expensive stadium ever built.

The NFL has already announced that because of the pandemic all games during the 2020 season will be played in the United States.

Previously, the league had planned to stage five games at international sites - four in London and one in Mexico City.
